Dr. Obinwanne F. Ugwonali of Peachtree Orthopedics Awarded As 2025 GA Top Doc
Obinwanne F. Ugwonali, M.D. of Peachtree Orthopedics has been reviewed and approved by GA Top Docs based on merit for 2025. Dr. Ugwonali’s educational journey began at Phillips Academy Andover, followed by a B.A.S. in economics and biology from Stanford University. He then earned his medical degree at Yale University School of Medicine, where he received first place for his thesis on multiple births in Nigeria and Brazil. After completing his M.D., Dr. Ugwonali was awarded a prestigious 1-year research fellowship at Columbia University’s Orthopedic Research Laboratory, where he earned first place at an orthopedic research conference for his work on thumb arthritis.
Dr. Ugwonali continued his training with an orthopedic residency at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. During his time there, he contributed to multiple publications in respected journals, including the Journal of Hand Surgery and the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, and was recognized for achieving the department’s highest orthopedic in-training examination scores for two consecutive years.
Following his residency, Dr. Ugwonali pursued subspecialty fellowship training in hand, shoulder, elbow, and microvascular surgery at Harvard Medical School’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital Boston. At Harvard, he also served as an attending staff member at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Veterans Affairs Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery, with a certificate of added qualification in Hand Surgery, Dr. Ugwonali brings exceptional expertise to his practice. He holds a position as an assistant clinical professor of orthopedics at Emory University School of Medicine and is currently on staff at Northside Hospital, Piedmont Hospital, and Children’s Hospital in Atlanta.
Dr. Ugwonali is a member of several prestigious organizations, including the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the National Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the Georgia Orthopaedic Society, the Medical Association of Georgia, and the Medical Association of Atlanta.
